1575/85 bestand ein landgräfliches Amt Jesberg, 1742 befand sich Jesberg jedoch beim Amt Borken. In der Zeit des Königreichs Westphalen wurde ein Kanton Jesberg eingerichtet (1807), 1814 jedoch das alte Amt restituiert. 1821 ging das Amt im Kreis Fritzlar auf.
